How to activate DND (Do Not Disturb)?
There are millions of subscribers in the Indian Telecom Industry, who allow customers to connect by calling or texting with their loved ones. Around the same time, telemarketing firms make indiscreet calls to customers to promote their goods and services and flood their inbox with advertisement message, which can be frustrating most of the time. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has come up with a unique solution called the DO NOT DISTURB (DND) registry to fix this issue.
What is DND?
DND (Do Not Disturb) is a TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) initiative to save telecom customers from unsolicited SMS/calls. It will be illegal for telemarketers to send some kind of unsolicited SMS or calls to those numbers if a user registers his/her mobile number.
How to Activate DND? (This process is same for all telecom companies)
- Send SMS at START 1 to 1909 to block Banking – Insurance – Financial Products – Credit Cards
- Send SMS at START 2 to 1909 to block Real Estate
- Send SMS at START 3 to 1909 to block Education
- Send SMS at START 4 to 1909 to block Health
- Send SMS at START 5 to 1909 to block Consumer Goods & Automobiles
- Send SMS at START 6 to 1909 to block Communication – Broadcasting – Entertainment – IT
- Send SMS at START 7 to 1909 to block Tourism

Points to remember while DND Registration
- It takes miminum 7 days to process your request to stop the unwanted messages
- Calls and messages to 1909 are completely toll free
- NCPR (National Customer Preference Register) cannot block your bank SMS alerts, bank communications, online bookings, third party personal calling, and etc.
